About the event

Save the Date: Wednesday, December 4 A New Exhibit at The Getty Museum Join us for a day of exploration at a fascinating new interactive exhibit. Spiritual Director, art lover, and docent Kim Allen Niesen will guide us through the exhibit, "Lumen: The Art and Science of Light." She will challenge our senses as we consider LIGHT!

Lumen: The Art and Science of Light Medieval artists created dazzling light-filled environments with gold, crystal, and glass, evoking the divine realms. Light, long associated with divinity, was also central to scientific inquiry. While today science and religion are often viewed separately, medieval people intertwined them. Focusing on the arts of Western Europe, this exhibition explores how Christian, Jewish, and Muslim philosophers, theologians, and artists studied the science of light during the “Long Middle Ages” (800–1600). To convey the wonder of moving light on precious materials, several contemporary artworks are displayed alongside historic objects.

Registration will open in early November, and space will be limited.
